Here Are The Best Signs From Sydney’s Climate Emergency Rally
"Never thought I'd have to rally for my right to breathe"
Fears over the climate emergency saw thousands of people rally in Sydney yesterday, and as much as we love a good protest in the Junkee office, we LOVE a good protest sign.
We attended the rally yesterday, alongside an estimated crowd of 20,000 people, and took photos of some of the best.
The rally came in the midst of New South Wales’ highest ever pollution levels, and a day after smoke drove Sydney’s air quality to almost thirteen times the hazardous levels.
Hundreds of P2 face masks were handed out to protect attendees.
Some of the protestors laid the blame squarely on the shoulders of our politicians, who have been criticised for trying to downplay the role climate change is having on our unprecedented bushfire crisis.
There was huge backlash this week after Prime Minister Scott Morrison said firefighters did not need any extra help from the federal government because “they wanted to be there“.
Yesterday he backtracked, announcing an extra $11 million for the National Aerial Firefighting Centre, which coordinates 140 water-bombing aircraft.
