Prepare your best skinny jeans, because it looks as if emo heartthrobs Short Stack could be announcing their reunion.

As initially reported by Pedestrian, the band piqued interest on Twitter over the weekend when they changed their display artwork to solid black — which is generally a move taken when a band is just about to announce something significant.

Shortly after, lead singer Shaun Diviney wrote in a (since deleted) tweet: ““maaaaybe be online tomorrow night”. When contacted by Music Junkee, Diviney declined to give any more information. Fans also noticed what could be an announcement for a new single or album when Google searching the band’s name last night:

It might be hard to remember now, but there was a period of time when Short Stack were quite easily the biggest thing in Australian music, rocketing to fame off the back of their pop-punk slammer Stack Is The New Black. They sold out tours across the country, landed on the cover of Rolling Stone, and caused a Bieber-mania scene when they rocked up to perform on Sunrise in 2009.

In 2012, the band called it quits, right in the middle of recording their third album Vandelay. In 2015 they returned with a new album Homecoming, but faded from sight soon afterwards.

“We just sat down and realised we’d sort of done everything we wanted to do, we felt like we were just going around in circles again,” Diviney told Music Junkee in 2018. “And we just wanted to have a break. We’d been doing music for like 12 years, I think full-time at that point. We all wanted to do different things. Andy wanted to travel. Bradie opened his own drum studio and then I sort of was doing my own thing so we just wanted to take a break.”

He told Music Junkee that the only way they would reunite would be if they could play with My Chemical Romance. “I said to my booking agent: ‘If My Chemical Romance ever reunite, we’ll play with them. Apart from that, maybe we’ll do the RSL tour when we’re 50,” Diviney said.

So perhaps, given that My Chemical Romance are currently gearing up for a massive reunion tour across the world, that time has now come to pass. Or who knows, perhaps this is one giant fake out. Regardless, Short Stack fans have emerged from the woodwork and are currently losing their minds. Scroll down for some of our favourite reactions.
