Ruby Rose Cast As Piper And Alex’s New Love Interest In ‘Orange Is The New Black’
Healey isn't going to be happy about this at all.
Today, in casting news that makes total and complete sense, it’s been announced that Australian model, TV presenter, and LGBT legend Ruby Rose will be starring in the new season of Orange Is The New Black.

Cast as a love interest for both Piper and Alex — DRAMA — Rose will be rocking some serious jumpsuit chic as Stella Carlin, the newest inmate at Litchfield. Odds are, Healey ain’t going to be too pleased about it. But he’d be about the only one.
While this news is high five-worthy for a big ol’ bunch of reasons, it’s understandably huge news for the Australian star herself. Though Rose has been based out of LA for the past couple of years, she was yet to make a big break on the scene in the US. Not only has this latest announcement gained her a huge number of new fans it’s landed her a place on Elle magazine’s list of TV’s fresh faces to watch in 2015.

In fact, this whole summer has been full of wins for Rose. Last year she filmed and starred in ‘Break Free’, a short music video exploring gender fluidity, and it’s just now clocked over a nifty 2 million views on Youtube. It’s well worth a watch.
Though not much more is known about her character on the show than she’ll have “a sarcastic sense of humour and captivating looks”, it’s nice to know that she won’t be the only Aussie on set. Yael Stone who plays the surprisingly convicted stalker total charmer Lorna Morello is a Sydney expat. It’s also great to see another LGBT person cast in the show. This is something OITB is generally pretty amazing at — can you name another series where a real-life trans woman plays that same role as a main character on the show (let alone one as excellent as Laverne Cox)? Didn’t think so.
All this to say, we’re pretty excited. Season 3 doesn’t yet have a confirmed release date, but it’s definitely going to be here some time in 2015.
