So I guess today is actually just 90s Appreciation Day huh?

After we got an update on Bronson from Round The Twist this morning, Nickelodeon has announced that the original cast of Rocko’s Modern Life will return for an hour-long special, Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling.

The show was cancelled after four seasons back in 1996, so fans were left on quite the cliffhanger after all the characters were shot into space. Now, after roughly two decades floating through the void, everyone’s favourite expat wallaby and his terrible friends are back in a special aimed right at the goddamn zeitgeist:

“Heffer and Filburt embrace every aspect of new technology, social media and the endless diversity of food trucks,” the studio said in a statement. “[While] Rocko whole-heartedly believes his nostalgia for the past can save him from the tortures of the modern world.”

I mean, that last bit sure looks like a personal attack on me, a Bad Millennial, but I am sure it’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.

Plans for the Static Cling special have been in the works since last year, but this is the first the company has confirmed it’ll bring back the voice. No fake Rocko’s here.

How much they mean to you will obviously depend on how much you’ve kept up with your Nickelodeons and Cartoons Network, but returning voices include: Carlos Alazraqui (The Fairly OddParents) as Rocko; Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants, Adventure Time) as Heffer Wolfe; Doug “Mr.” Lawrence (SpongeBob) as Filburt Turtle; Charlie Adler (Blaze and the Monster Machines) as the jerks, Ed and Bev Bigheads; Linda Wallem (Nurse Jackie) as Aunt Gretchen and Jill Talley (SpongeBob) as Nosey.

Static Cling will also be introduce Steve Little (Adventure Time) as a cowboy and Cosmo Segurson as a pillow salesman, because obviously. It follows Hey Arnold!: The Movie and Invader Zim as ancient Nick shows to get the telemovie treatment.

Will Rocko and friends successfully embrace contemporary horrors such as social media, global warming and $5 Nutella spoons? Or will they stick to the past like luddite hipsters who, as a random example, can’t get over shows from the 90s? Find out next year!
