The James Bond franchise is often rightfully considered fairly sexist in nature (even Daniel Craig has said that Bond is “actually a misogynist”). However very occasionally, it’s outdated gender politics can be very, very amusing, particularly in the case of the standard sexy James Bond title sequence.
These sequences often involve anonymous, shadow women dancing provocatively around animated guns, being as they are James Bond’s two favourite things. Thankfully a YouTube user called ‘Here Be Dragons Film Festival’ has taken the time to unpack the important subtext to classic Bond film openings, with this particular example being that of GoldenEye.
