People Are Trolling Trump’s Illegal Alien Hotline With Calls About UFOs

The truth is out there.

One of the main features of Donald Trump’s political career has been his scapegoating of immigrants. During the election campaign, he infamously described people coming from Mexico as “rapists”, and since assuming the presidency has authorised the Department of Homeland Security to publish “a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens.”

In the same vein, the government recently launched the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement Office (VOICE) hotline, through which members of the public can report crimes committed by foreigners. “Until today, those victimised at the hands of illegal aliens have had no point of contact in our federal government dedicated to this issue,” said Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly.

Of course, as with just about everything else the Trump administration has attempted so far, the whole thing quickly descended into a farce, with trolls calling up the hotline en masse to report a very different type of illegal alien.

A US Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson told Buzzfeed that the hotline has been “tied up by hoax callers” and chastised pranksters for preventing “legitimate victims of crime from receiving the information and resources they seek.”

A number of callers, meanwhile, have reportedly been greeted with long hold times and sceptical operators. I can’t imagine why.
