Andy Samberg: 'PEN15' is a new comedy from Andy Samberg

If, like us, you literally cannot get enough of Brooklyn Nine- Nine and Andy Samberg, then you’re in luck: a brand new comedy show, executive produced by Samberg, is hitting our shores really, really soon.

The excellently-titled PEN15 is a short-form comedy sitcom that purports to take a warts-and-all look at the high school experience. Think a live action Big Mouth, or Mean Girls soaked in a great deal more bodily fluid, and you’ll be close.

Starring Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle of Man Seeking Woman fame, PEN15 follows two lonely thirteen-year-old outcasts as they navigate a world of mix CDs, vomit, high school bands, and hormones.

The show boasts a neat little twist: although the rest of the supporting cast are played by actual flesh-and-blood teenagers, the decidedly un-teenage Erskine and Konkle play thirteen-year-old versions of themselves.

So, picture two grown women bumbling their way through a high school dance, or puking over a pair of drums, and you’ll get the picture.

Andy Samberg is executive producing alongside Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, his Lonely Island bandmates. It’s not the first time that the actor and comedian has lent his clout to a burgeoning comedic talent either.

After all, Andy Samberg was one of the powerhouses behind the underrated I’m Sorry, the story of an unravelling comedy writer, and he also helped bring Brigsby Bear, an off-kilter comedy starring his one-time Saturday Night Live colleague Kyle Mooney, to the screen.

So yeah, these days, you can pretty much trust Samberg’s name as a mark of high quality comedy, only adding to the allure of PEN15.

The first season of PEN15 runs ten episodes, and it’ll drop all at once, so you can binge (and cringe) your way through one long hormone-addled bout.

PEN15 will premiere exclusively on Stan in Australia, and hits the streaming service on February 10.
