Listen, the Oscar ceremony might be a celebration of artistry and creativity, but it’s also resolutely, defiantly silly.

Every year there’s some new nonsense, either planned or unplanned, that throws the seriousness of the event to the gutter and lets anarchy reign.

This year was no different, and the ceremony was defined by its sweeping peals of madness, all of which Twitter lapped right up, because how could you not?

Here then are a list of the stand-out moments from this year’s 2019 Oscars ceremony, from very ridiculous cameos to some heart-rendering speeches.

  • When Best Foreign Language Film presenter Javier Bardem introduced the category in Spanish, and made an important plea for unity and the tearing down of walls (both literal and figurative, one might well assume)
  • When Roma director Alfonso Cuaron said he grew up on “foreign language films” like Jaws

When Keegan-Michael Key Literally Floated Into The Oscars On A Goddamn Umbrella

  • When Trevor Noah took a jab at Mel Gibson, who he joked barked “Wakanda forever” at him backstage, before following it up with a “not nice” word.

  • When Daniel Craig admitted that Charlize Theron could absolutely kick his ass

  • When the director of short film Period. End Of Sentence explained she wasn’t crying because she was “on her period or anything”

When Lady Gaga And Bradley Cooper melted the entire planet’s hearts

  • When Samuel L. Jackson got to give his old friend and colleague Spike Lee an Oscar

  • When Spike Lee used his speech to implore the audience to “do the right thing” (neatly referencing his own under-awarded, all-time great film of the same name)
  • When U.S. congressman John Lewis recounted America’s troubled, pained history while referencing Green Book

  • When Frances McDormand took to the stage. Like, not the part where she said anything, cause she kinda didn’t. Just the bit when she was standing there, being Frances
  • When Olivia Colman defied the odds, took out Best Actress and started her speech by saying, “This is quite stressful”
  • When the cameras cut to Colman’s director Yorgos Lanthimos to reveal he had cried a single tear
  • When Colman blew a raspberry at the teleprompter for telling her to wrap up
