Billionaire, hopeful mars colonist and majority Twitter shareholder Elon Musk has announced to the world that he’s gone full goblin mode.

Like the fulfilment of an ancient prophecy, Musk confirmed his adoption of the goblin cause after sharing a meme featuring popular Breaking Bad character Saul Goodman.

Goblin mode is basically one big fat joke which was revived from the deep past of the internet by Twitter user @juniper who, in keeping with the mischievous tendencies of goblins, photoshopped a headline featuring Julia Fox and Kanye West.

The phrase has two simultaneous meanings: mischievous, chaotic behaviour, almost akin to ‘cabin fever’ — and a particular format of the ‘cowgirl’ sex pose, where the topmost participant puts their knees up. (demonstrated below by Spiderman villain The Green Goblin)

While goblin meme-smiths have watched in awe as the term started being picked up in mainstream media coverage, Musk’s endorsement of the term has brought despair to the original creators of the meme.

Of course, Musk’s embrace of “goblin mode” isn’t purely due to a sentimental kinship with the disruptive industrial work practices of goblins, but relates to the bullish rise of a new cryptocurrency: Goblincoin.

The price of this new coin has surged dramatically after Musk’s announcement, akin to other announcements the Tesla CEO has made over Twitter which precipitated the rise and fall of Dogecoin and Ethereum.

While it’s tricky to ascertain whether Musk posted the meme in direct reference to the cryptocurrencies’ rise — or if events transpired in reverse — with an arbitrary reference to the meme causing the loosely affiliated Goblincoin to rise in value.

Musk’s goblin mode admission comes after several public polls he conducted over Twitter the weekend, with topics ranging from “Delete the W in Twitter?” to “Convert Twitter SF HQ to homeless shelter since no one shows up anyway”.
