Last year, a week before Christmas, Netflix dropped the ten-episode documentary series Making a Murderer — which meant that the things that you wanted to talk about over turkey and trifle were well, not really appropriate holiday conversation.

This year that space will be taken by The OA, a less disturbing but obviously still unsettling mystery (it’s Netflix!). The eight-part drama is by the powerhouse duo behind Sound of My Voice and The East, Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, a pretty prestigious get for Netflix.

The premise of the “mindbending” series is as follows: a missing blind girl in her twenties, Prairie Johnson (Brit Marling), comes home to the community she grew up in with her sight restored. Some hail her a miracle, others a dangerous mystery, but Prairie won’t talk about her seven years missing with the FBI or her parents.

Gah! Watch the creepy trailer below.

The OA is on Netflix on December 16.
