New Queens Of The Stone Age Songs Just Leaked In The Funniest Way Possible

We wouldn’t normally make light of the news that a highly anticipated new album has slipped out ahead of schedule, messing up a label’s carefully laid plans and pissing off the band who made it. But in this case, we think you’ll forgive us for making an exception.

In a turn of events that sounds made up but absolutely is true, part of the new Queens of the Stone Age LP has been printed on a Gordi vinyl and mailed to fans. As noticed by one Reddit user, three tracks from QOTSA’s still-unreleased album Villains appear on some wax copies of Reservoir, the debut album from Australian artist Sophie “Gordi” Payten.

The three tracks in question — ‘Fortress’, ‘Head Like A Haunted House’ and ‘Un-Reborn Again’ — form the B-side of Villains, and were accidentally pressed onto the B-side of Reservoir.

How, you ask? Both albums are set to be released on the same day — August 25 — and while they’re out on different labels, they were pressed onto vinyl at the same place.

A representative from the label family behind Reservoir has confirmed to Pitchfork that it’s all an honest fuck-up: “This is a pressing defect that we’re working diligently to resolve as quickly as possible,” he said. “It’s not the first time this sort of thing has happened, but we’re all hoping it’s the last.”

To her credit, Gordi’s taken the news well: “Obviously I was aware that the Queens of the Stone Age album was coming out the same week as mine and I was aware it would probably garner all the limelight, so the logical solution was to just chuck a bunch of their songs on Reservoir,” she joked to Pitchfork. “I anticipate either people won’t notice or they’ll appreciate the dynamic shift.”

But if you happen to have your hands on one of those “defective” records, maybe hold onto it — we’d wager they’re about to become a serious collectors item.
