Not sure if you heard, but Natalie Portman was in Australia recently. And while she was here, she was introduced to the joys of Aussie rules after attending a training session of the Melbourne Demons. But when she tried to explain the game to Ellen DeGeneres, I’m not sure she quite did it justice.

“It’s sort of the platypus of sports,” she told the audience during her recent appearance on Ellen. “Like, you can bounce the ball, but you kick it, and then you tackle each other, but no padding. It’s like a crazy game.”

I mean… she’s not wrong?

Fortunately, DeGeneres kind of knew what Portman was talking about, since she’s married to an Australian.

“I know that Portia’s brother is not impressed with our football because that football is much harder to play,” she said.

Portman also said she copped some abuse from local footy fans after she was photographed wearing a Demons jumper.

“People in the streets were like ‘we hate you, you support the Demons’ or whatever,” she said. “And then other people were like ‘cool, we love you, you’re a Demons fan’. And I was like ‘I have no idea’.”
