This weekend was the season finale of Saturday Night Live, and who better to run the show than that 6ft5 stack of neck muscle and charisma, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The episode marked The Rock’s fifth outing as host, an anniversary that was commemorated during his opening monologue via the presentation of a ceremonial blazer by fellow five-timer Alec Baldwin.

“What a season it’s been…for me,” Baldwin joked, fresh from yet another appearance as President Donald Trump.

Of course Baldwin’s appearance was fitting given the mounting speculation that Johnson himself might consider running for office in 2020 – speculation that the Hollywood star addressed with two words:

“I’m in.”

Joined on stage by his running mate, two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, Johnson admitted that “in the past, I never would have considered running for President. I didn’t think I was qualified at all. But now I’m actually worried that I’m too qualified.”

The pair went on to predict that they would win the race in a landslide. “I would get the senior vote, because I fought in WWII, in like 10 different movies,” said Hanks.

“And I of course would get the minority vote, because everyone just assumes that I’m, well, whatever they are,” added Johnson.

You can watch the entire announcement below, which you should definitely do, if only to hear Johnson refer to Hanks as “Hanksy”.
