Fresh from having to formally apologise to a child that she defamed on the internet, Australian commentator Miranda Devine has hit a new low during an appearance on American viewing staple Fox News.

Devine, who has spent years spouting conservative dribble in this country, was given the opportunity to spout conservative dribble in other countries after President Donald Trump tweeted out her email address and thanks for an article that she wrote.

In a now deleted Tweet, Trump thanked the columnist for calling him an “invincible hero” who had proved that the coronavirus’ impact had been overinflated.

Due to that flurry of attention, Devine appeared on Fox News, where she immediately set about downplaying the impact of coronavirus and blaming the vulnerable for lockdown.

“It’s incredibly selfish of older people or neurotic people who are timid and afraid and won’t come out of their basements to confine children and young people to miss out on the most important part of their lives,” Devine said, much to the shock of many members of the American viewing public.

Since the clip went up, a whole new group of people have been forced to learn about Miranda Devine, and have responded by venting their frustrations about her online.

Needless to say, Devine’s comments are based on a misunderstanding of all sorts of data, and a general desire to turn even a pandemic into a contentious political issue. That she would air such opinions to a country gripped by a mounting death toll is genuinely unthinkable.
