Less than two months after scoring a book deal reportedly worth $250,000, trumped up internet dickhead Milo Yiannopoulis has had his contract scrapped by the publisher.

The publisher, Simon & Schuster, defended the deal when it was announced in January by arguing that the opinions expressed in its publications “do not reflect the corporate viewpoint”. But now it looks the company is eager to distance themselves from Yiannopoulis following his latest controversial comments.

Yesterday footage emerged of Yiannopoulis defending paedophilia in a 2016 video podcast. In the video Yiannopoulis criticised age of consent laws and referred to 13 year old boys in relationships with older women as the “predator”.

Yiannopoulis was due to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference in the US, but the group cancelled his invitation “due to the revelation of an offensive video in the past 24 hours condoning pedophilia”.

The far-right ‘personality’ wrote a series of posts on Facebook yesterday defending the comments and arguing they had been “selectively edited”.

“I do not support pedophilia. Period,” he wrote. “It is a vile and disgusting crime, perhaps the very worst. There are selectively edited videos doing the rounds, as part of a co-ordinated effort to discredit me from establishment Republicans, that suggest I am soft on the subject.”

But later he acknowledged he used “imprecise language” and admitted he was “partly to blame” for the growing controversy.

In a statement today Simon & Schuster announced they were scrapping the book deal after “careful consideration”.

On Facebook Yiannopoulis confirmed the book deal had been scrapped.

And just to compound his problems, it now looks like Yiannopoulis might be fired from right-wing website Breitbart, where he currently works as an editor, after staff threatened a walkout in opposition to his comments.

Here’s hoping that for the rest of 2017 when we talk about “milo” we’re talking about the delicious brown drink, not the angry white man.
