At the very least, the trailer will probably be excellent.

Of all the problems with Suicide Squad – and there were an awful lost, mind you – maybe the biggest and most frustrating was the way that director David Ayer completely wasted Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. As our critic wrote when the film was still stinking things up in cinemas, “Robbie is a hugely charismatic and capable actor but, as Harley Quinn, she is not only the focus of an uncomfortable amount of textbook-style male gaze filmmaking, she’s also underserved by the material.”

So here’s some potentially good news: Warner Brothers have announced that Robbie’s Quinn is getting her own movie, alongside a number of other female villains from the DC rogues’ gallery. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gotham City Sirens will be based on the recent comic series of the same name, and will see Quinn join forces with fellow Batman foils Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

Also good: the film is being written by a woman, in Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who previously penned scripts for the upcoming Tomb Raider remake as well as Sherlock Holmes 3. Less good: it’ll be directed by Ayer, whose handling of Quinn didn’t exactly inspire confidence the last time around.

Still, if previous DC/Warner Bros projects are anything to go by, we can at least expect some really good trailers. And in a way, isn’t that the most important thing of all?
