‘Making A Murderer’ Part 2 Will Show How The Appeals Process Went Down
We're promised new, "unexpected evidence".
Making A Murderer will return to Netflix next month with a new season that promises to track Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey through their recent appeals process.
Since the first season’s release, Avery and Dassey’s case has been tested in court again: in 2016 a judge said that Dassey should be released from prison before another judge ruled that he should head back to prison.
In 2017, Avery was denied a new trial by a Wisconsin judge.
What a rollercoaster.
“Steven and Brendan, their families and their legal and investigative teams have once again graciously granted us access, giving us a window into the complex web of American criminal justice,” said Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos. Ricciardi and Demos write, direct and produce the series.
“Building on Part 1, which documented the experience of the accused, in Part 2 we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit,” the pair added in a press release.

The new series looks like it will explore the emotional toll the appeals process has had on the two convicted criminals, and it will introduce a new character — Avery’s appeal lawyer Kathleen Zellner — who does everything she can to prove Avery’s innocence.
We’re promised “unexpected evidence” will be uncovered that explains why the jury originally convicted Avery of the murder of 25-year-old photographer Teresa Halbach.
Making a Murderer aired in 2015 as part of a wave of popular true crime stories, which included Serial and The Jinx.
Part 2 will be 10 episodes long and will be released on Netflix on October 19.
