‘Lyric Cards That Looks Like Shitposts’ Is Our New Favourite Dumb Thing On The Internet

As Hilary Duff once said, "if the light is off, then it isn't on". <3

@lyriccardshitposts is our new favourite dumb thing on the internet

The headline says it all: an Instagram and Twitter account @lyricshitposts is collating choice screenshots from lyric site Genius and editing their own to turn some of pop music’s more questionable lines into inspirational quotes.

Reading like Clickhole‘s fake celebrity gossip column “They Said What?!”, the account points towards some of the clunkier but very real lines from Frank Ocean and Frank Sinatra. No one is safe.

Not all the lyrics are bad, per se. Take ‘Call Me Maybe”s “Before you came into my life/I missed you so bad”.

Sure, it may read like a Tumblr post from 2012, but it’s also a genuinely excellent lyric — equal parts silly and profound. And isn’t that what shitposting is all about?

Find some more of our favourites below, and give @lyricshitposts a follow on either Instagram or Twitter. Sure, some of them cut off lines mid-way through for comedic effect, but it’s hard to deny how potent they are. Hilary Duff, understandably, features multiple times.

Enjoy.
