Watch Lizzo Casually Tear It Up With The Flute On The Met Gala Red Carpet

Lord, give me the confidence of Lizzo banging out a tune on that flute.

Don’t freak out, but Lizzo not only just attended the Met Gala red carpet dressed like some sort of goddess, she arrived flute in hand.

Of course, it wasn’t just any flute, but Lizzo’s legendary gold-plated ‘Sasha Flute’ — an homage to Beyoncé’s alter ego Sasha Fierce — which she used to grace onlookers with a short tune.

The legendary singer was resplendent on her arrival, appearing in a black and gold outfit designed by Thom Browne. How she managed to play any sort of instrument among the pandemonium of the red carpet is beyond us, but you’ve got to appreciate the performer for offering the hoards of reporters a treat that they’ll probably never forget.

I think we can all agree that in recent years, no one has done more for flutes than Lizzo. Lizzo famously picked up the flute at the age of 10 and even studied classical flute performance at the University of Houston on a music scholarship. While flute sometimes makes an appearance on Lizzo’s studio recordings, you’re more likely to see Sasha if you see Lizzo perform live, where it is usually greeted with more shrieks and gasps than the singer herself.

It’s not hard to see why. There’s something about the way Lizzo plays Sasha that transports you to another dimension. As Vulture writes, “The flute traditionally connotes themes like spring, nature, and innocence”.

“Lizzo deliberately juxtaposes these connotations against her identity as a vivacious, profane, self-loving woman.”
