Lady Gaga And Liza Minnelli Shared The Sweetest Moment At The Oscars
"I got you."
All Oscars drama aside, Lady Gaga presented the Best Picture award with Liza Minnelli at last night’s Oscars and it was the sweetest.
At 76 years old, EGOT winner Liza Minnelli took to the stage with Lady Gaga to present the Oscar’s most coveted accolade. Minnelli was there to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1972 classic, Cabaret.
The Cabaret actress’ rare public appearance had the Oscars audience erupting in applause. “The public, they love you,” Gaga said to Minnelli.
“Good evening. You know how I love working with legends,” Gaga began. “And I’m honoured to present the final award of the evening with a true, show business legend.” Gaga continued. “She’s celebrating the 50th anniversary of Cabaret. Oscar-winning actress, Liza Minnelli.”
“Hi everybody!” Minnelli greeted the crowd. “I’m so happy to be here, especially with you,” she said to Gaga. “I’m your biggest fan.” Minnelli also called Gaga, “my baby” after being introduced.
Minnelli appeared to struggle with the sheets of paper and muttered, “I don’t understand.” Gaga graciously took the musical theatre legend by the hand and said, “I got it”. When Minnelli began to stumble over reading out the nominated films, Gaga continued helping her. After presenting the cast of CODA with their win, Gaga knelt down by Minnelli and softly said “I got you.” Minnelli whispered back “I know.”
It’s clear Gaga is a gracious peer to her elderly contemporaries. Back in 2012, Gaga invited Minnelli to her show in Maddison Square Garden which was being filmed for HBO. During the show, she gave Minnelli a shout-out and cited her as a major inspiration for her career.

This is like a lesson in how to facilitate older people while honouring who they are.
What a class act by @ladygaga with legend Liza Minnelli.
The conferred whispers of "I gotcha" "I know" picked up by the mikes make it especially touching.pic.twitter.com/2JOWyrTQxn— Naomi O'Leary (@NaomiOhReally) March 28, 2022
