Yesterday, Lil Nas X publicly came out via Tweet — today, he’s clarifying that chart-breaker ‘Old Town Road’ isn’t secretly about gay sex. The life of a modern cowboy.

In case you missed it, Lil Nas X — who just released his debut EP, 7, and now, with ‘Old Town Road’ sitting at #1 on the US Billboard 200 charts for fourteen weeks, holds the US record for longest #1 for a rap song ever — let it be known yesterday that he’s gay.

While he wasn’t necessarily ‘in’ beforehand, his confirmation came on the last day of Pride month, telling fans to listen to the end of ‘c7osure’, a song about ‘not acting’ anymore and ‘letting go’.

“Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more,” wrote Lil Nas X, attaching a video of LGBITQ-friendly cartoon Steven Universe. “But before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.”

He then said he thought it was “deadass” obvious, considering the rainbow on the cover for 7.

And with that, fans dug around for what else might be ‘obvious’ by re-examining the lyrics to ‘Old Town Road’, and what ‘riding horses till I can’t no more’ and having ‘horses in the back’ could mean.

Essentially, the same dumb, arguably homophobic joke spread and spread to the point where Lil Nas X felt the need to clarify by tweeting, “Old Town Road is literally about horses”.

Not everything’s about dick, though to be fair, a lot of people still don’t realise Ariana Grande’s ‘Side To Side’ is an ode about struggling to walk after getting laid. In other Lil Nas news, this weekend he made a surprise appearance during Miley Cyrus’ Glastonbury set with her father, Billy Ray, to perform the year’s biggest song about horses and not gay sex.
