Kreayshawn Would Kindly Like You To Stop Streaming ‘Gucci Gucci’, Or Stream It A Lot
The rapper has asked fans for help after announcing she's in debt to Sony for $800K.
Kreayshawn has asked new fans who have recently discovered her 2011 hit ‘Gucci Gucci’ to either not stream the song or, alternatively, stream it a lot, as she receives $0 from the song and is in $800,000 of debt to Sony Music.
The prompt came after Kreayshawn trended on Twitter on Tuesday after someone tweeted out a snippet of the ‘Gucci Gucci’ video with the caption “what is this?”. It created, of course, an outburst of nostalgia and awe from those who were discovering the track for the first time.
Either as a reminder or a recap for those who missed out the first time, Kreayshawn (whose real name is Natassia Zolot) rose to prominence off the back of ‘Gucci Gucci”s music video, which saw the Oakland rapper run around her city with her associated group, White Girl Mob. It is an absolute gem of a song.
Off the back of ‘Gucci Gucci’, she immediately signed to Colombia, an imprint of Sony, for $1 million, and in 2013 released her debut album, Something ‘Bout Kreay, which featured Diplo, Kid Cudi and 2Chainz, among other big names.
Unfortunately, it missed the moment. In its first week of release, it sold less than 4000 copies, which, for a major label debut, was God- awful. In 2014, Kreasyshawn tweeted she literally made one cent of royalties off the album.
After seeing her name trend on Twitter, Kreayshawn told fans “don’t buy Gucci Gucci or stream it. I get 0$ and I’m in debt to sony for 800k”.

Kreayshawn has previously explained she didn’t see her full $1 million due to Colombia dropping her in 2013, and that her accountant at the time was stealing money and sent her (and other musicians such as Ne-Yo) into debt. She’s absolved that particular debt, but still owes Sony a lot of money.
As a solution, she suggested that her new and old fans either stream her 2019 independently released EP, T.O.M.B, or alternatively, stream ‘Gucci Gucci’ so much she pays back the debt.
“Stream it so many times I get put off debt. I guess you can try that too,” she tweeted.”Can stan twitter stream me out of my Sony debt? If you can plz do.”
She also asked fans to contribute to Smile.rip, a collective which raises money for Black LGBTIQ+ people, and buy a Bandcamp compilation she has two tracks on, which is raising money for the NAACP.
Errr, I'm trending I have nothing to promote..

Fans also suggested that they create a TikTok dance for the track, which is filled with lyrics that’d be perfect for the platform. Kreay’s no stranger to TikTok: last year, T.O.M.B track ‘Missing Kitty’ had a little moment.
