Will Eve and Villanelle finally get their happy ending? By the looks of it...maybe not.

“I once saw a rat drink from a can of coke there. Both hands. Extraordinary.”

It was that line, delivered with acerbic perfection by Fiona Shaw in an early episode of Killing Evethat made us all realise we had stumbled upon something special. The darkly comedic TV series that follows MI6 agent Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and Russian assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) — two deeply broken women who are probably also deeply in love — has been one of the freshest stories to land on the small screen in the last 10 years.

But all good things come to an end, and so too must Killing Eve. AMC and BBC America recently confirmed that the fourth season of the show would be its last, with its Australian premiere coming to the ABC on February 27, 2022. That is mere days away, people. How am I supposed to feel?

If the Season 4 trailer is anything to go by, the show’s long-awaited final instalment is here to destroy us. Tracking at just over a minute long, the trailer teases at some exciting developments, including a glimpse of noted sociopath Villanelle in therapy, and our star-crossed lovers glancing at each other in a clear hat-tip to Romeo and Juliet. More devastatingly, though, both Eve and Villanelle are shown in separate scenes to be kissing people other than each other. I’m sorry, but I think I speak for Killing Eve‘s entire fan base when I say this is unacceptable. And in this economy? Haven’t we suffered enough?

A bunch of new faces can also be spotted in the new trailer. Anjana Vasan joins the cast as an undertaker-turned-assassin, alongside Robert Gilbert as Eve’s new love interest (ugh.) French actor Camille Cottin will also return as a highly-ranked member of the ‘The Twelve’ — you know, the organisation that hires assassins. To kill people!

Will Villanelle and Eve finally get the happily ever after that everyone so badly needs? We’ll simply have to tune in this Sunday to find out.

Killing Eve premieres on February 27 on ABC iview at 8.30pm and ABC TV at 9.30pm.
