It’s not sensible to call the Keanu Reeves fever that’s sweeping the world a comeback, exactly — after all, he’s never stopped being great.

But certainly there’s gotta be some name for what’s going on here, even if it’s not a renaissance. After all, over the last 12 months or so, he’s officially been canonized — vaulted into the internet hall of fame of dashing and charming mature-aged men who fans both desire and pin deeply complicated, Freudian father fantasies onto. He’s up there with Danny DeVito and Jeff Goldblum now, one of those twinkly, salt and pepper saints who you desperately want to tell you that they’re proud of you.

He’s also been aggressively memed, which is what happens when the internet either loves or hates you. This is not new for Keanu Reeves, exactly — after all, Sad Keanu is one of the cornerstones of internet culture, the hottest viral sensation of the early 2010s.

But this time around, it’s a happy Keanu that is making waves — specifically the happy, distinctly seductive Keanu that makes a grand entrance halfway through the new Ali Wong romantic comedy Always Be My Maybe.

Yep, nobody can get enough of Neo himself striding into the bar with the confidence of the man who knows he’s got at least six more John Wick movies in him, throwing up his arms in practised nonchalance and generally being a picture of charm and seduction brought impressively to life.

Indeed, a dedicated account has popped up specifically to peddle Keanu striding goodness. It’s called “Keanu Reeves Walking To Music”, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Thank god.

The Keanu Walking meme has even cross-pollinated with another viral trend of the moment, creating this beautiful work of art:

There you have it: really does look like Keanu fever is here to stay.

Always Be My Maybe is currently streaming on Netflix.
