Justin Bieber’s fifth album Changes has just come out, and he’s hitting the promo hard amid tepid critical reception, and after a pretty janky release of lead single ‘Yummy’.

Among the interviews and media appearances is a raw and real 43-minute interview with Apple Music radio host Zane Lowe, in which the duo look back at the pop-star’s turbulent past few years.

Last year, Bieber penned an open-letter via Instagram about the dark sides of child-stardom, writing about the depths of addiction, depression and becoming a “shell of a person”. Now, in this interview, he breaks down while wishing only the best for Billie Eilish, collaborator and huge Belieber.

When reflecting on Eilish, 18, and her meteoric rise over the past few years, Bieber says he will always be there as a support for her. While talking, he chokes up, and pauses the regain his composure.

“It was hard for me being that young and being in the industry and not knowing where to turn and everyone telling me they loved me and you know, just turning their back on you in a second,” he said. “I just kind of let her do her thing and if she ever needs me I’m going to be here for her.”

“I just want to protect her. I don’t want her to lose it. I don’t want her to go through anything I went through. I don’t wish that upon anybody. So yeah, if she ever needs me, I’m just a call away.”

Eilish responded by posting that section of the interview on her Instagram alongside photos from her Belieber past, including pictures of her Bieber poster covered bedroom. Her message was simple, writing “stream Changes” in the caption.

The two first met last year at Coachella during Ariana Grande’s headlining set, and the two have since collaborated on the not very good remix of Eilish’s ‘bad guy’. Most recently, Eilish released ‘No Time To Die’, the theme song of the upcoming Phoebe Waller-Bridge written Bond film: she appeared at the Oscars to perform it.
