Living in the era of peak TV can be extremely exhausting: as soon as you think you’re on top of all the content that every streaming service under the sun has to offer you, all of a sudden you read that Jordan Peele has created a brand new bizarro sci-fi comedy series for Youtube.

But yes, I am afraid to tell you that Jordan Peele has indeed created such a show, meaning that you’ll have to put that rewatch of Russian Doll on hold, head on over to Youtube Red, and check out Weird City.

An anthology comedy series set in a bizarro, futuristic city named — you guessed it —  Weird, the show’s a mix between surrealist gags and dark, serious political jabs (Weird is divided by a wall that separates the rich and the poor, for example.)

So, get ready for six episodes of off-the-wall television that’ll make you laugh outwardly and inwardly weep for the forthcoming collapse of our deeply ridiculous species!

The show was co-created by Charlie Sanders, who is a veteran of Key & Peele, not to mention no stranger to weirdo, outsider, cult TV fare — he played Officer Joe in MTV’s deeply underrated Death Valley, a kind of monster-filled send-up of Cops.

There’s a heap of other exciting talented involved too. Amy Heckerling, the director of Clueless, helmed two episodes, and Adam Bernstein, the man responsible for the music video for The B-52’s ‘Love Shack’, helmed a bunch more.

There’s no shortage of talent in front of the camera either: Rosario Dawson, Michael Cera, and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, all appear. Oh, as do Ed O’Neill, the dad from Modern Family, and Dylan O’Brien, who play a loving couple.

Weird City is the latest in a string of projects for Peele, all of them launched since the comedian transformed into Hollywood’s Next Big Thing thanks to the success of Get Out. He’s producing a remake of Candyman, developing Matt Ruff’s brilliant novel Lovecraft Country for television, and his Get Out follow-up, the horrifying Us, will hit Australian cinemas this March. Sounds like he’s not really sleeping, which is fair, cause after Get Out neither are we.

Weird City is available on YouTube Red now.
