Your Fave Jeff Goldblum Is Under Fire For Remarks About Islam He Made On ‘Drag Race’
Dragged.
Jeff Goldblum was a guest judge on the latest episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and is coming under fire for some remarks he made about Islam.
We are well into Season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and a season which has been full of controversy has delivered yet again. During the latest “Stars and Stripes” themed episode, Iranian-Canadian contestant Jackie Cox walked the runway in an absolutely stunning kaftan and hijab in the colours of the U.S flag. As she walked, her voiceover pointed out that “you can be Middle-Eastern, you can be Muslim and you can still be American.”

When we heard from the judges panel, Jeff Goldbum decided it was the time to ask some questions. First he asked if Jackie is religious, and she replied no, but that the outfit was about the importance of visibility to religious minorities in America. Goldblum pressed further, asking about the religion in terms of being anti-women and anti-homosexuality.

His comments were criticised by many, some of whom thought that Goldblum should look in his own backyard first.
A lot of “he’s not wrong tho” from people who have Jesus in their bio lol ask the Pope about faggots sometime

Jeff Goldblum felt the need to say "but isn't Islam anti-gay and anti-woman" to Jackie because she was wearing a stars-and-stripes hijab, as if America hasn't been anti-gay and anti-woman from the outset, or killed and displaced millions of Muslims, including women and queers…

when a queen dresses up like a nun pastor etc no one brings up how Christianity is anti-women and anti LGBT but when a Muslim queen wears a hijab all of a sudden we need to talk about how Islam is anti-gay and anti-women? #RupaulsDragRace #DragRace pic.twitter.com/1yoc4wb1Q2

A Persian drag queen wore a hijab on this weeks Drag Race runway and Jeff Goldbloom (guest judge) questioned the queen because the religion is “anti-homosexuality and anti-women”. Me: a queer, Muslim woman watching it: pic.twitter.com/pXcBM7RULk

Other people wondered why Goldblum thought it was an appropriate time to delve into the topic, and why the awkward moment was left in the edit.
why tf did jeff goldblum think that was an appropriate thing to bring up #dragrace pic.twitter.com/GaaVtErqk4

production staff really thought jeff goldblum demonizing the whole of islam and forcing jackie to explain her decision to wear a hijab was a good moment to leave in the final cut pic.twitter.com/9IaxuuxPdR

And why he thought it fell to him, a straight white guy guesting on a queer show, to bring up at all.
the “is there something homophobic or misogynist about this religion” discussion as soon as someone puts on a hijab whew
tired of a discourse that tries to cut queer people off from their own religious culture. they’re ours to celebrate, lampoon, and glory in too. #DragRace pic.twitter.com/E8VzluepjE

It was a roller coaster of a night for Goldblum, who later cried during a lip sync for your life to a Katy Perry song.

But the final emotional word can go to Jackie Cox, who talked about her experience as an Iranian in America, and what the recent political turmoil has felt like. “I’m here, and I deserve to be in America just as much as anyone else.”
