“As cast members of Cats, nobody more than us understands the importance of good visual effects," Corden said.

James Corden and Rebel Wilson were two of the many actors that starred in the disastrous motion picture Cats. You might not remember that, either because you didn’t see Cats, or you did and tried immediately to wipe it from your memory.

Of course, Cats was a lengthy and horrifying fever dream, an adaptation of the famous stage musical that quickly became known as one of the most unpleasant films ever made. Texas Chainsaw Massacre has nothing on the scene in Cats where a lively and fur-clad Rebel Wilson strips off her own skin and eats a tap-dancing cockroach.

Today, Corden and Wilson hopped up onto the stage to hand out the Oscar for best Visual Effects. But they couldn’t do so without taking a potshot at the 2019 film that they were both trapped in, like orphaned children trapped by a curse in a painting.

The first sledge came in the form of their costumes. The pair were dressed in huge, oversized fluffy cat costumes, looking like budget furries.

That wasn’t all. They also took the time to shit on their film’s disastrous VFX, effects that were roundly criticised as being both horrible and inept.

“As cast members of Cats, nobody more than us understands the importance of good visual effects,” James Corden said.

Ouch. Burn.

Then, just to wrap the whole fever dream up, the two of them started batting around the microphone stand like a brace of well, cats.

Horrifying. But also, genuinely funny?
