The trailer for Hustlers just dropped, giving us our first look at Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez’s inspirational strippers turned con-artists.

Inspired by ‘The Hustlers At Scores’, a 2005 article written by Jessica Pressler, Hustlers follows a group of former strip club employees. Disgusted and fed up with their wealthy Wall Street clients, who they blame for the poor financial situations of many working-class people, the women begin scamming the men for all they’re worth. And being wealthy Wall Street clients, they are worth a lot.

“The game is rigged,” says Lopez’ character Ramona in the trailer, “and it does not reward people who play by the rules.” Ramona is the leader of the crew and mentor to Destiny, a relatively new stripper played by Wu.

It looks as though, at least in this instance, crime does pay — for a while, anyway. Things eventually start to unravel, and it’s reasonable to assume that the enterprise doesn’t end in champagne ever after. After all, if you have a hustle this good, why would you stop unless you got caught?

Wu and Lopez are accompanied by a star-studded cast, including Cardi B, Lizzo, Julia Stiles, Lili Reinhart and Keke Palmer. Cardi B worked as a stripper herself before making it big, and the trailer is backed by her 2018 song ‘Money’.

Hustlers will hit Australian cinemas on October 10.
