Amanda Seyfried (Nearly) Nails Elizabeth Holmes’ Voice In ‘The Dropout’ Trailer
Scam fans, gather: 'The Dropout' is coming very, very soon.
Scam fans, gather: Hulu has dropped the official trailer for its highly anticipated series The Dropout.
The Dropout — named after the successful podcast from ABC (US) — follows the story of the infamous turtleneck-wearer Elizabeth Holmes, who dropped out of Stanford to found the medical technology company Theranos.
In case you’ve managed to miss the bulk of the story over the last decade: Holmes and the company claimed they had invented a way to run blood tests off a tiny sample of blood (or bluhhhd) using a machine they had built. It was promising to revolutionise the medical industry, and the company raised billions of dollars in funding from investors — the board included exceedingly powerful people like former Secretary of State George Schulz, and Jim Mattis, who would become Defense Secretary.
But spoiler, it was a gigantic furphy, and the disgraced Holmes was recently convicted of defrauding investors — she’s due to be sentenced in September.
Mamma Mia’s own Amanda Seyfried plays the main role in The Dropout, and does a fairlyyyy good job at nailing Holmes’ incredibly strange (and most likely fake) voice.
Watch the trailer below. The series drops on Hulu on March 3 — no word yet on whether Disney+ will pick it up in Australia (which usually streams Hulu titles).
