Adele is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, an old-school diva with a classic voice. She’s just not really a triple j artist — which makes her inclusion on the Hottest 100 of the Decade rather baffling.

The Hottest 100, which is going down today after days of teasing, started pretty normally, with triple j mainstays like Flume, Disclosure and Fisher all sneaking in.

But then, sitting right there at the 97th spot: ‘Rolling in the Deep’, the single that established Adele as one of the biggest popstars on the planet.

And people are not happy about it.

Some Twitter users are even questioning whether the song was played on triple j in the first place. That’s not actually a prerequisite for the countdown, which has always allowed write-in votes. But it’s a good point, particularly given Adele’s reputation as something of a mainstream radio staple, designed for older listeners.

And hey, if you thought Twitter users were angry, wait till you see those on Facebook.

Well, at the very least, the Hottest 100 of the Decade has been somewhat consistent. After all, it’s been totally bugnuts so far — why would we expect it to get any less weird as the day goes on?
