Poor old Ed Sheeran royally copped it from just about everyone for his awkward Game of Thrones cameo last year, and turns out fans weren’t the only ones put off by his appearance.

GOT pure angel Hodor, aka Kristian Nairn, told Huffington Post yesterday that he thought Sheeran’s cameo — which saw the singer dressed up as a Lannister solider in the woods — was plain old “stupid”.

“I’m not a fan of the cameos in Game of Thrones,” Nairn said. “I don’t like them. I think it’s stupid. I don’t mind going on the record on that. I just think it takes you right out of the world.”

“Especially Ed Sheeran. I was like, ‘Why is Ed Sheeran here?’ I mean, Ed Sheeran’s great. He’s a great guy, great musician, but why is he in Game of Thrones?”

Nairn then clarified that while he’s a fan of Sheeran as a musician, he’s just not that big a fan of him turning up in the Game of Thrones universe.

“I think most people would agree with me there,” Nairn went on. “It was a big snap to reality. It’s like, ‘What? What?’ It’s a fantasy show. We’re all caught in this amazing world and spend so much time and money and talent to create, and all of a sudden there’s a pop star? What?”

That said, Nairn admitted he thought Icelandic band Sigur Rós’ cameo (during Joffrey and Margaery’s wedding) was alright: “They kind of got away with it because they’re so quirky. They’re almost like Game of Thrones world in real life. They’re so elven and spiritual.”

Nairn’s sentiments about Sheeran’s cameo echo those of basically every fan — in fact, such was the backlash against his appearance in the show that the singer was forced to take a break from Twitter to get away from angry commenters. Which…fair:
