Hey Sydney: We’re Hosting A Simpsons Party Tomorrow Night, And You Should Come

'Junkee Night: The Simpsons Edition' -- and it's only 15 dollarydoos.

The best way to pick new friends is to judge them by how many Simpsons quotes they have permanently lodged in their brains. When this person talks about “Aurora Borealis”, do they do it with the right prolonged inflections and growing indignation? Do they look at you strangely when you incredulously talk about “Bort” in souvenir stores?

For better or worse this show is now part of our language. It makes sense that we only like to hang out with people whose brains are similarly addled with decades-old obscure references and quotes.

To celebrate the fact this show has been straight-up killing it for 25 years (come on guys, don’t be one of those killjoys who hate on the later episodes), we’re herding up a bunch of our own kind and bunkering down in Golden Age Cinema this Wednesday, November 26 at 8.30pm, for a night of listening and watching.

Trust us, it’s gonna be good.

Thomas ‘Shag’ McMullan (FBi Radio), Ben Jenkins (The Chaser’s Media Circus), Kirsten Drysdale (The Checkout), and the evening’s host A.H. Cayley (Confession Booth and Backchat on FBi Radio) will all be sharing some commentary on their favourite episodes from over the years, after which Brendan Maclean will be providing a special musical performance to complement them.

It may or may not look something like this:

For just 15 dollarydoos, you’ll get treated to all this magic as well as some all-important movie popcorn, some of the last Duff Beers in the city — get there early, they’re going out to the first 45 through the door — and a special cocktail called ‘Duff Gardens Iced Tea’ so you can get as loose as Lisa.

If nothing else, it will validate all those years of obscure quotes and inappropriate wooping noises at family gatherings.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
