Haiku Hands’ New Video Is A Brutal (And Pretty) Parody Of Every Insufferable Instagram ‘Artist’

This somehow makes us nostalgic for terrible party conversations.

Sydney electroclash four-piece Haiku Hands has dropped a video for their tongue-in-cheek new track ‘Fashion Model Art’, and it might weirdly make you miss inane conversations with social climbers/creatives at events and parties.

The track, a collaboration with NYC duo Sofi Tukker, is a pompous dance-track about the type of socialites who forget your name but remember your social media follower count. There are even helpful lyrics to remind you how to do the rounds at an art opening or label launch (“an interested person is an interesting person”), set to a slick beat.

It’s brash, loud and silly, which is Haiku Hands, self-described as an “artist collective”, down to a tea: obviously, it needed a big and beautiful video to match.

In it, a set of pretty dancerly types sway and jerk around an industrial warehouse space. Directed by Jasmin Tarasin, it’s a blur of colours, stunning outfits and self-serious strutting, set to a song that pokes fun of itself — indulgent and ironic all at once.

“Haiku Hands are in fact a wonderful collision of fashion, model and art in the very best way,”  says  Tarasin. “It was so inspiring to be able to play and create with these women in collaboration with our combined creative community. I enjoyed the process so much and feel that the fun and beauty we found is seen on screen.”

Haiku Hands’ self-titled debut album is out September 10, on Mad Decent. In addition to Sofi Tukker, it features Lewis Cancut, Machine Drum, Mirac and Elgusto, aka one half of Hermitude.
