Google’s ‘Art Zoom’ series, where artists geek out about their favourite classic artworks, is back for a second season, this time featuring the likes of FKA Twigs, Grimes and The 1975 frontman Matty Healy.

In the videos, each around three to five minutes, each artist narrates a short lecture/overview of a particular painting they love.

Twigs waxes about Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi’s Mary Magdalene (makes sense, given her second album’s named after and themed around the religious figure); Grimes goes in on Pieter Bruege’s 1562 painting The Fall of Rebel Angels; and Healy, despite famously singing that ‘modernity has failed us‘, goes through one of 20th-century abstract artist Piet Mondrian’s ‘large compositions’.

Also featured this season are J Balvin, who takes a Spanglish trip through Colombian artist Botero’s career and legacy via a deep dive on his painting 20th July, K-Pop star Chae-young of group TWICE, and Ellie Goulding.

Previously, Maggie Rogers, Feist, Girl in Red and Jarvis Crocker have made videos as part of the series too. They’re all available to watch on YouTube via Google’s Arts And Culture page.
