Melburnians Are Going To Get On The Beers After Restrictions Lift On Wednesday
Congrats, Melbourne -- you deserve this!
Victorians will soon be able to get on the beers after recording zero new cases for the first time in 139 days.
Victoria’s dad (Daniel Andrews) made the announcement that most remaining restrictions will be eased or lifted on Tuesday at 11:59 PM.
“This belongs to every single Victorian, every single Victorian who has followed the rules, stayed the course, worked with me and my team, to bring this second wave to an end,” he said.
From 11:59pm on Tuesday:
* Cafes, restaurants and pubs to reopen in Melbourne
* Retail to reopen
* Beauty and personal services to resume (so long as masks are worn)
* Religious gatherings: indoor 10, outdoor 20
* 25km limit to remain
* Regional border also remains— Benita Kolovos 🐯 (@benitakolovos) October 26, 2020
Cafes, bars, pubs, retail, beauty and personal services (which includes tattoos and manicures), and religious gatherings will all be allowed with some limits. Weddings will be able to have 10 guests, 20 for funerals, and 10 people can gather outdoors with no limit on households.
Victorians will also be able to visit each other’s homes again, but more detail on the rules there will be released tomorrow. Contact sports for under-18s can resume, and non-contact sports for adults will be able to go ahead too.
PT and dance classes will be able to be held outdoors with a limit of 10 people.
The 25 kilometres from home and regional border rules will stay for the time being, but would lift on November 8 provided things go well over the next couple of weeks.
November 8 will also see the other limits on the number of people gathering lift.
Andrews won’t be getting on the beers tonight though: “I don’t know I’ll be having a beer tonight, I might go a little higher up the shelf,” he joked.
First question out of the presser announcement:

Permission has been granted for Victoria to get on the beers. I repeat the beers have been authorised

The rest of the state however, probably will. Social media exploded with celebratory posts. When he appeared wearing a North Face jacket, typically associated with good news or weekend press conferences, Twitter lit up.
I’m weeping. We’re opening up. Beautiful Melbourne, beautiful Naarm. We did it. x

“NORTH FACE ON A MONDAY,” writer and broadcaster Marieke Hardy exclaimed.
“Melbourne. Australia thanks you,” 4 Corners Journo Lucy Carter tweeted. “You took one for the team. Go get on those beers (or tea! or whatever you like!) because you bloody deserve them.”
