Florence Welch’s Cover Of A Christmas Classic Will Get You Into The Holiday Spirit
Stunning.
We can’t blame you if it’s hard to get excited about Christmas this year, beyond it signaling that 2020 will actually end. But Florence Welch is determined to try, giving classic ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ a belt.
The cover was for The Stars Come Out to Sing for Christmas, an annual charity concert by Nordoff-Robbins music therapy. This year was, of course, a virtual concert — the full thing is available to stream on YouTube, and features performances from Tony Bennett, Nile Rogers and Chic, Kaiser Chiefs, Robbie Williams and Rod Stewart, among others.
But if there’s just one to watch, it’s Welch’s rendition of the Judy Garland standard, performed on a theatre balcony. Better yet, it’s not exactly the most up-tempo track, so it’s a perfect song choice — especially with lyrics like “we will all be together/if the fates allow”.
In April, Welch released ‘Light Of Love’, a track that didn’t make her 2018 album High As Hope., with all proceeds going towards the UK’s Intensive Care Society.
