After much speculation, it’s been confirmed that the finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race, scheduled to air in the coming weeks, will be going ahead: virtually.

Season 12 of Drag Race simply cannot catch a break. Between the disqualification of contestant Sherry Pie, COVID-19 shutting down production, and RuPaul’s consistent attempts to destroy his legacy by being a rich boomer, it seemed the season was doomed.

And that is a shame! Because besides the aforementioned Sherry Pie (and RuPaul), it’s been a pretty high-quality season, with lots of excellent queens.

Usually at the end of the season, which we are heading towards now, we would see a reunion episode with the queens, and then a lip sync battle to decide who takes out the crown. But with production halted, it was unknown what exactly would happen, until now. It’s been revealed that the reunion has already been recorded, touted as a “virtual slumber party” hosted by RuPaul. The following week we will see the remaining queens compete in a “revolutionary lip-sync for the crown”, shot with Ru and the cast via virtual video, which will “highlight the creativity” of the queens. No idea what that means really, and it’s impossible to say how it will turn out. Some fans are on board, happy we will get a finale, even if it’s not ideal.

But others say they wish the show would just delay the finale until it can be filmed as usual.

Either way, it sucks for the talented contestants left, but i’m sure that they will Work. It. Out. That’s what drag queens do.
