It’s been eight years since we last had a star-studded apocalyptic comedy like This Is The End, but Don’t Look Up is here to change all that.

Directed by The Big Short’s Adam McKay, who was also responsible for cult classic comedies Anchorman and Step Brothers, Don’t Look Up follows the story of two astronomers who discover that a planet-destroying meteor is heading straight to Earth. The gag? Well, not a single soul really seems to care.

You see, when Dr Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his grad student Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) spot a “planet killer” comet in the sky, they immediately head to the White House to inform President Orlean (Meryl Streep) that they have just six months to stop the impending doomsday.

But neither the president, nor her cocky son (Jonah Hill) who was conveniently made Chief of Staff, really seem to care. Instead of creating an action plan to save mankind, the president wants the astronomers to “sit tight and assess” as she seems more focused on the fact that the meteor has elements worth $30 trillion.

Satirising the political divide in the US, Randall and Kate then decide to go on a media tour across the country in an attempt to convince the public that the end of the world is coming. Naturally, the nonchalant general public doesn’t believe them either, and Kate is deemed crazy after she goes viral for screaming about how “we’re all gonna die” in an interview on a morning news show.

Beyond Lawrence, DiCaprio, Hill, and Streep, Don’t Look Up also features a number of supporting Hollywood heavy-hitters like Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), Rob Morgan, Himesh Patel, and Mark Rylance too.
