It’s been confirmed that Aussie actor Eric Bana is going to play the titular unclean Jonathan in the television adaption of Dirty John, opposite the beacon of perfection that is Connie Britton. This is the most perfect casting of all time.

Dirty John is a hit investigative journalism podcast created by Wondery and the Los Angeles Times, which was released last October and downloaded over 10 million times in the first six weeks.

Bravo has commissioned a series based on the podcast, which documents the true story of how a manipulative-but-charming man named John Meehan (played by Eric Bana) sweeps Debra Newell (Connie Britton) off her feet and into a seductive web of lies. Just an opinion, but he is NOT a good dude.

This is Bana’s American TV debut, and he’s a fantastic choice for a complicated and amoral role. The Australian actor is best known for his film work, such as Black Hawk Down, Hulk, Troy, Munich and Star Trek.

Connie Britton is known for her long-time roles on Friday Night Lights and Nashville, and also her perfect hair.

The US cable channel Bravo has commissioned two seasons of Dirty John, but describes the series as an anthology rather than a traditional on-running narrative. The first season will deal with the story of John Meehan and Debra Newell, while the second season will focus on a different crime, with an entirely new cast.
