The federal election is upon us, and you know what that means: the democracy sausages you’ve been waiting for have arrived! Some kind souls have even created an interactive map to help you find your local democracy sausage purveyor, making things easier than ever.

Whether you’re after a ridiculously gourmet concoction or simply the humble, time-honoured sausage sanga, the good folks at democracysausage.org have you covered. The crowdsourced (or “crowd-sauced”, as they put it) interactive map lists polling places with democracy sausages on offer around the country, along with all the information you could possibly need.

That includes stall opening hours, and advice on whether the stall is wheelchair accessible. There are also icons showing which stalls offer bacon and egg sandwiches, vegetarian options, cake stalls and coffee, in case any of the above are more your style.

As Helen Ensikat, Sausage Intelligence Manager at democracysausage.org points out, “you don’t even need to be voting to access a Democracy Sausage — we encourage international visitors and other non-voters to participate in this fine Australian tradition. And, of course, while you should only vote once, you can consume as many Democracy Sausages as you wish.”

The map already features 1531 stalls and counting, but don’t be disheartened if you’re not seeing options in your area yet — stalls will continue to be added throughout the day as volunteers track them down. There’s even part of the site where you can add a stall if you know something we don’t!

So what are you waiting for? Plan your democracy sausage expedition today — and if you’re still not sure how you’re voting, check out the ABC’s election guide to see your choice of local candidates.
