With the Golden Globes happening over Zoom this year due to the pandemic still ravaging the US, there was bound to be some technical difficulties.

Sadly, the first casualty of the virtual award ceremony was poor, innocent Daniel Kaluuya, who gave his entire acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture… while on mute.

When accepting the Golden Globe for his role as American activist Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah, Kaluuya forgot to unmute himself and the only sound heard was the awkward silence and laugh of a confused production crew and audience.

Trying to move right past the technical difficulty, Laura Dern tried to excuse the mess up by saying “we unfortunately have a bad connection, we apologise for the bad connection” before trying to move along.

But Daniel Kaluuya was eventually able to unmute his microphone as he was heard exclaiming, “You’re doing me dirty!”

Once able to get his connection back to normal, Kaluuya thanked Judas and the Black Messiah director Shaka King for his “inspiration”, before giving a tribute to Fred Hampton, the activist he played in the film.

“I gave everything,” Kaluuya said. “And I couldn’t give it to a more noble man, that’s chairman Fred Hampton. And I hope generations after this can see how brilliantly he thought, how brilliantly he spoke and how brilliantly he loved.”

Live TV and Zoom, huh? It really does be like that.
