Earlier this year, Chrissy Teigen dramatically announced that she would be leaving Twitter for good after allegedly facing “relentless bullying” when a number of her problematic tweets resurfaced.

After using the app for over 10 years, Chrissy Teigen explained that Twitter “no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something”.

“For years I have taken so many small, two-follower count punches that at this point, I am honestly deeply bruised,” Teigen continued in a long thread explaining her reasons. “God, I have said fucked up shit and killed myself over it as much as you killed me. But one thing I haven’t learned is how to block out the negativity.”

However, just 23 days later after announcing she would be leaving the platform, Chrissy Teigen returned to Twitter on April 16. Teigen shared that she returned because it “feels terrible to silence yourself” and that she was willing to “take the bad with the good”.

Now, less than a month after returning to the platform, Chrissy Teigen is in hot water again for claims that she actually relentlessly, and publicly, bullied a teenager on Twitter back in 2011.

So let’s breakdown exactly what’s going on with Chrissy Teigen right now:

Did Chrissy Teigen Bully Courtney Stodden?

Back in 2011, a 16-year-old named Courtney Stodden made headlines around the world when they decided to marry 50-year-old actor, Doug Hutchison.

Despite having clearly been groomed by an older man, the world ridiculed the teenager and slut-shamed them instead of criticising Hutchison for his role in the relationship. But after officially divorcing last year, Stodden has spoken out about the relationship and the horrific treatment they received by the media and public during the relationship.

In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Stodden gave insight into the extent of abuse faced and even called out specific celebrities who took part in the bullying campaign against them.

Beyond Dr. Drew making Stodden do an ultrasound live on air to prove Courtney Stodden’s breasts were real and Anderson Cooper shitting on them constantly on CNN, Stodden shared that Joy Behar also loved to call them a “slut” and Courtney Love’s preferred insult was “whore”.

But Stodden noted that one of the worst offenders at the time was Chrissy Teigen, who would not only publicly tweet abuse, but would also allegedly tell Stodden to kill themselves privately.

“[Chrissy] wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself. Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die’,” Stodden alleged.

“There were a lot of celebrities acting like playground bullies. Some of the worst treatment I got was from women, and we’re not going to get anywhere if we keep holding each other back.”

In some of these tweets, Teigen claims that Stodden “has rabies” and in others appears to tells Stodden to “go to sleep forever” and to take “a dirt nap”.

However, this isn’t the first time Courtney Stodden has spoken out about the alleged bullying she’s faced at the hands of Chrissy Teigen.

When Teigen left Twitter in March due to “negativity and bullying”, Stodden spoke to TMZ and called Teigen a hypocrite for complaining about the very same things that she did to a 16-year-old child.

“Seeing Chrissy Teigen leave Twitter over negativity and bullying was… I just couldn’t believe how hypocritical it was. I think for me because I experienced so much harassment and bullying from her when I was just 16, 17, 18-years-old at a time when I needed help. Like I was being abused,” Stodden explained.

“She sent me multiple tweets. She has sent me so many different tweets. Private DMs, up to a couple of years ago. It’s so damaging when you have someone like Chrissy Teigen bullying children.”

So, What Has Chrissy Teigen Said In Response?

After feeling the public pressure to address the allegations, Chrissy Teigen finally spoke out about her actions this morning.

As people gathered under Teigen’s social media posts demanding that she issue an apology, Teigen took to Twitter to publicly apologise to Stodden for her past actions.

Teigen shared that she was “mortified and sad” at the “insecure, attention-seeking troll” she used to be, but said that her embarrassment is nothing compared to how she made Courtney feel.

“Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bullshit in front of the entire world,” Teigen started her thread. “I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel.”

“I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologise,” Teigen continued. “I’m so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am.”

Teigen also said that the disappointment she feels from letting her fans down is “nearly unbearable” and noted that she will “forever work on being better”.

However, despite Chrissy Teigen publicly stating that she tried to connect with Courtney Stodden privately to apologise, Stodden has refuted these claims.

Taking to Instagram, Stodden shared that while they “accept [Chrissy Teigen’s] apology and forgive her”, the fact of the matter is neither Teigen nor her team reached out to apologise privately.

“I accept her apology and forgive her. But the truth remains the same, I have never heard from her or her camp in private,” Stodden wrote alongside a screenshot of Teigen’s Twitter account. “In fact, she blocked me on Twitter.”

“All of me wants to believe this is a sincere apology, but it feels like a public attempt to save her partnerships with Target and other brands who are realizing her ‘wokeness’ is a broken record.”
