Two icons, together at last.
Appearing as a guest during John Carroll Kirby’s shows in LA this week, Carly Rae Jepsen blessed fans with a cover of Kate Bush’s iconic ‘Wuthering Heights’ as well as Sade’s ‘By Your Side’.
Producer and pianist John Carroll Kirby was performing a show at the iconic Zebulon lounge when Carly Rae Jepsen joined him on stage. A Twitter fan account dedicated to posting updates on Jepsen posted videos of Jepsen’s appearance at the show from fans.

The pair performed Jepsen’s favourite Kate Bush track, ‘Wuthering Heights’, before digging into a cover of Sade’s ‘By Your Side’. Jepsen shared via Instagram that it “was an honour” to perform with Kirby.
In an interview with Clash magazine, Jepsen gushed over her love for Kate Bush. “I’m late to the party, but I’ve been [realising] what an incredible writer she is, even visually,” she says.

On why ‘Wuthering Heights’ is her favourite Kate Bush track, Jepsen said, “I bonded with my makeup and hair stylist Aga [Dondzik] over that song.” Like all of us, Jepsen just likes, “how emo she gets. She really goes there and that’s something that I’d like to do as well.”
I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but an emo Carly Rae Jepsen album sounds like an absolute dream. Meanwhile, her iconic track ‘Call Me Maybe’ recently celebrated its 10th anniversary back in September. Yes, the passage of time is indeed a disturbing thing to comprehend.

Reflecting on ‘Call Me Maybe’s 10th birthday, Jepsen described the infectiously catchy track as “a little lightning bolt” in her life. Jepsen was still working as a waitress at the time. She recalled overhearing a table of 12 complaining that ‘Call Me Maybe’ has been on repeat their entire camping trip.
Well, from a waitress to ‘Wuthering Heights’ at the Zebulon, we have no choice but to stan.
