If there was one thing I didn’t really see coming in 2021, it was Penn Badgley and Cardi B becoming instant besties on Twitter. But it’s happening and, honestly, it’s been a joy to witness.

The whole thing started when Cardi B came across a video of Penn Badgley mentioning the rapper during the 2019 press run for the first season of You.

While chatting about how his character Joe reveals the unsettling nature of social media, Badgley commended those who can use it as a tool because they have authentic relationships with their audiences.

“You see me, when I try to do something on social media it’s pathetic. I think about it too much, therefore when I do use it actually lacks that authenticity… that fluidity,” said Badgley.

“So I really appreciate people who have this sort of, totally second-nature relationship with [social media] because that’s when you have something meaningful to post then it really comes true and people appreciate it all the more.”

“Cardi B is such a perfect example of that,” the You star continued. “She has such an authentic relationship and to me, it’s an incredibly nuanced place to be… and that’s why people like her so much.”

In response, Cardi B absolutely lost her shit while Penn Badgley was just… lost for words.

“OOOOMMFFFGGGGGG HE KNOWS ME !!!” Cardi B tweeted with eight shock emojis. “OMMMGGGG!!!!!! Yoooo like I’m famous famous.”

“I–” Badgley said in response.

But if this strangely wholesome interaction wasn’t enough, both Badgley and Cardi B went one step further and decided to swap display pictures to solidify their new friendship.

Feeling confident with their new connection, Cardi B then decided to start writing herself into the confirmed Season 4 of You.

As we saw at the end of Season 3, Joe wound up in Paris after murdering Love and faking his own death to escape the mess the couple left behind in Madre Linda.

Knowing that we left Joe desperately searching for Marianne, his latest obsession, in France, Cardi B decided to jump off this plot point to hopefully help out the show writers and land herself a future role in the series.

“So it’s Episode 1 and I’m at Paris Fashion week shutting it down! I turn around and there stands YOU,” Cardi B jokingly tweeted. “Ok finish it off @netflix.”

Playing along, Netflix and the new Badgley-B shippers decided to mash up the lyrics of ‘WAP’ to suit the You-niverse. And the result? Truly iconic scenes.

Forget pandemic storylines and series mirroring actual world events, this real-life love story is the only one I am desperate to see on screen.
