Capybaras, those beloved internet chill-lords, are taking over a gated community in Argentina, causing chaos in the process.

As The Guardian has reported, the creatures are sewing all manner of destruction, biting dogs, destroying lawns, and in one extreme case, causing a traffic accident. Oh, and then there’s the issue of their poop, which is apparently proving distasteful for those residents who live in the gated community.

But, as reporter Uki Goñi notes, these creatures are proving socialist heroes of sorts, taking back land that rightfully belongs to them. The gated community in question, located to the north of Buenos Aires, is built on wetlands near the “second most important” river in the country. The building of residential areas in such an integral environment is a form of environmental destruction, upsetting the natural balance of the biosphere and putting endangered species at risk.

So yes, capybaras are proving socialist icons of sort, disrupting the life of the one percent and returning gentrified areas to nature.

Indeed, as quoted by The Guardian, ecologist Enrique Viale said that rather than capybaras invading the gated community, the gated community is guilty of invading the natural world. “It’s the other way round: Nordelta invaded the ecosystem of the carpinchos [capybaras],” said the ecologist, highlighting the extent of human destruction of the natural world.

Of course, capybaras aren’t just ecological warriors — they’re also extremely cute. Just look at these things and tell me that you haven’t immediately fallen in love:

Capybaras are the newest entrant in the canon of beloved animals who are also socialist warriors. They join the likes of Negro Matapacos, a stray dog who came to represent the hopes of socialist protestors in Chile, and was famous for hating and attacking riot police.
