On some blessed days, little happens in the world worth reporting on for Music Junkee dot com. But still, the wheels of content must churn — and, in rare instances, the perpetual pressure fosters forth something which would otherwise never exist. Friends, as much as I hate hyperbole, I truly believe this 18 second video of a bird is the best thing you will see all day. Sound on, motherfuckers.

The star of ‘Funny caique walk’ is, no surprise, a caique, a Parrot endemic to the Amazon basin. Judging by this particular caique’s gait, it is a black-legged caique, since it is nice and stumpy, and has big old claws. That last part is integral, since this funny walk is due to the way this caique absolutely slaps those feet down.

Lets break this one down: try to keep up, this is important. This caique seems to be on a linoleum floor. The camera is also on the floor, and the caique seems to be having an absolute time walking around for a purpose unknown to the curious voyeur.

Where is it going? It loops and loops, and stomps on- and off-camera no less than four times in these 18 seconds. That’s a caique with something on its mind, its pace reminiscent of a sullen teen stomping through their house after their mum told them that no, they can’t just skip the athletics carnival.

Why would this caique need to let off steam? Perhaps it is thinking about freedom or deforestation. Perhaps it is thinking of a past life that, due to being a bird, it can’t quite place, where once it was a war horse galloping through the battlefield before it was shot dead. And so it stomps, trying to recreate the movements and remember the past trauma that haunts it.

Perhaps this is just how a caique walks. Either way, we’re in love with this percussive bird. Percuss on, baby.
