Britney Spears has delivered another emotional statement in court, saying she wishes to remove her father Jamie Spears from the conservatorship immediately and charge him with “abuse”.

Britney Spears appeared via video link in a court in Los Angeles to give voluntary testimony about her case. Prior to her statement, Judge Brenda Penny formally allowed Spears to select her own lawyer, Mathew Rosengart — a former federal prosecutor and a high-profile attorney who has represented a string of celebrities over the years. It’s a significant win for the singer. For 13 years, Spears hasn’t been allowed to select her own representation, and in the early stages of her conservatorship she repeatedly tried to retain her own attorney, only to be thwarted at every turn.

Spears initially asked the judge whether the courtroom could be closed for her statement — but reportedly then asserted she was fine speaking in an open court.

“I’m here to get rid of my dad and charge him for conservatorship abuse,” Spears told the court, as per Variety. “I want to press charges for abuse on this conservatorship today…all of it.

“Instead of trying to investigate my behaviour or my capacity, I want my dad investigated. This conservatorship is literally allowing my dad to rule my life…that is abuse, and we all know it.”

She added she wanted a restraining order against her father, and an investigation into his actions during his time as her conservator. She went on to claim she’d been forced to under psych tests while on the Circus tour, and her blood was drawn numerous times against her will. She also said her father had taken away her drivers licence.

All this was done, she said, with the promise hanging over her head that the conservatorship would end. “I did it all and they lied…they did nothing,” said Spears. “They didn’t end it, and I kept working.”

“[I will not allow] people question my intelligence for the millionth time,” she told Judge Penny. “It was their goal to make me feel crazy, which I’m not.”

“I’m angry, and I will go there,” said Spears, again stating her wish for her abuse claims to be investigated. She then asserted her wish for the conservatorship to end without evaluation, but indicated her main priority was to remove her father from her case immediately while allowing co-conservator Jodi Montgomery to remain for the time being.

After her statement, Rosengart then called for Jamie Spears to resign as a conservator. “There is a real question as to why Mr Spears does not voluntarily step down today,” said Rosengart. “Is he here for financial reasons? Does anybody really believe that Mr Spears’ involvement is in the best interest of his daughter?”

Rosengart’s suggestion that Jamie Spears voluntarily step down was swiftly rejected by his lawyer Vivian Thoreen — who went on to question Britney Spears’ claims of abuse.
