The Trailer For Netflix’s Britney Spears Doco Has Landed, And It’s Intense

Netflix has released the official trailer for its upcoming documentary Britney vs Spears.
Directed by Erin Lee Carr, who helmed Mommy Dead and Dearest, the doco will look closely at Spears’ controversial conservatorship, which has been in place since 2008. “I’ve worked my whole life, I don’t owe these people anything,” Spears can be heard saying in the trailer. “I deserve to have the same rights as everybody does. It’s been thirteen years and it’s enough.”

Spears’ conservatorship was put in place in 2008 as an emergency — and supposedly temporary — measure, due to concerns over the singer’s mental health. In recent years, the arrangement has come under scrutiny — Spears recently spoke in court about how the situation has “traumatised” her, that she cries every day, and that she just wanted her life back. Disturbingly, she also claimed to have an IUD in her body that she was unable to take out, as her conservators allegedly didn’t want her to have more children.
Earlier this month, following intense public pressure, Britney’s father Jamie Spears — her longtime conservator — filed a petition to end the conservatorship entirely. He had previously begun proceedings to step down as her conservator.

Earlier this year, the New York Times released its own documentary on Spears, Framing Britney Spears. There are reportedly more documentaries in the works — something that Spears herself called hypocritical earlier this year.
“So many documentaries about me this year with other people’s takes on my life,” Spears wrote on Instagram. “What can I say…I’m deeply flattered!!!! These documentaries are so hypocritical…they criticise the media and then do the same thing.”
