Production on the film Being Mortal was suspended last month after a complaint was made against Bill Murray for inappropriate behaviour.

The film — based on Atul Guwande’s book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End — marks Aziz Ansari‘s directorial debut. Deadline has confirmed that Ansari — who also stars in the film — is not a part of the complaint, nor is co-star Seth Rogen.

Murray has since responded to the allegations, by way of an interview with American network CNBC. “I did something I thought was funny and it wasn’t taken that way,” the actor said.

Murray went on to say that he and the female complainant were in talking and “trying to make peace with each other.” He continued, “I think that’s where the real issue is. We’re both professionals, we like each other’s work. We like each other, I think. If we can’t get along and trust each other, there’s no point in going further working together or making a movie as well.”

“It’s been quite an education for me,” Murray continued. “I’ve been doing not much else but thinking about it for the last week or two. The world’s different to what it was when I was a little kid. What I always thought was funny as a little kid isn’t the same as what’s funny now. Things change and the times change, so it’s important for me to figure it out.”

The elephant in the room is that we don’t actually know Murray said to his female colleague, but the actor seemed confident that the show would go on, stating: “I think we’re going to make peace with it. I’m very optimistic about that. You have to be”.

“It’s a sad dog that can’t learn anymore. That’s a really sad puppy. I don’t want to be that sad dog.”
